Preparing Your Pool for Summer Fun

Dale KreviazukUncategorized

Although it is freezing outside right now, spring and summer time are right around the corner and when they finally set in, the last thing you want is to be stuck inside because you did not prepare your pool.
If you have never prepped your pool for the summer, there are some things you need to do to make sure that it is in good shape, so you and the family can wiggle into your bathing suits and hop on into the inviting water.

Below, we will go over some of the steps you need to take to ensure everyone has a great time in the next couple of months.

  1. Don’t Drain the Pool

Even though you may be tempted to go ahead and remove the water from you pool, do not. It is not a good idea because you may damage the structural framework of the pool itself and the pool liner. The water helps to give the pool its shape and keep it in place.

  1. Inspect it for Damage

Before you begin cleaning or maintaining any aspect of the pool, you want to inspect it for any damage that may have occurred. Of course, you cannot hop into the pool and look underwater, but you should visually inspect the surface area of the pool, the walls of the pool, and the decking around the pool.

If you notice any problems, you will want to have them corrected right away to prevent more problems from arising.

  1. Clean the Pool

To clean your pool, you should use a skimmer to skim any visible dirt or leaves off of the top of the pool. Next, you should empty out any of the baskets, clean the filtration system, and clean the pump and skimmer baskets.

  1. Add Any Additional Water

If you notice that your pool is below where it should be, you will need to take the time and add some water to it at this point. You want to avoid overfilling the pool as well.

  1. Test the Water and Correct It

Once you have added water to your pool, you now want to have the pool water tested to make sure the chemicals are in balance. If they are not, you need to add the appropriate amount of chemicals and then retest the water until it is where it needs to be.

Now that you have cleaned your pool, you will want to make sure that you maintain it throughout the months leading up to summer. By cleaning and maintaining your pool now, you are guaranteed to have an uninterrupted summer pool party!
